The "Introduction to MMX (TM) Technology" tutorial introduces you to the MMX technology, the media extensions for Intel Architecture. This tutorial presents animations, simulations, and interactive exercises, which assist you in learning how to use the new MMX instructions to improve your application's performance.
The tutorial features four lessons:
- Introduction introduces the MMX technology and its benefits. It presents the new architectural features of the MMX technology: packed data types, new registers, and new instructions.
- MMX Instructions describes in detail the functionality of the new MMX instructions.
- Using MMX Instructions presents some sample MMX code sequences.
- MMX Code and OS Issues describes how MMX code uses existing operating systems.
Follow these steps to set up the tutorial:
- Download all 7 archive files to a temporary directory (say \MMXTEMP) on your hard drive.
- Run all .EXE files to extract the setup files. (The .EXE files are self-extracting, compressed files)
If you are running Windows 95, use the Custom option during the install process and deselect
the Video for Windows 1.1e check-box.
- After you've extracted the setup files, run INSTALL.EXE to setup the tutorial.
- Delete the temporary directory.
NOTE: You must download and extract ALL archive files before you can run the installation program.
