Overview

Multimedia and communications are driving today�s and tomorrow�s most exciting and compute intensive applications. MMXTM technology is a new extension to the Intel Architecture which will:

MMX technology will first appear in a new Pentium(r) processor targeted for introduction in Q4/96 (codenamed the P55C -- more details about this chip and others to come will be announced later in 1996).

The public release of MMX technology details on March 5, 1996 allows software tool, library and application developers to begin developing products that will utilize this new technology. Through this effort, when PCs with MMX technology begin to appear in the market in late 1996 and more widely in 1997, exciting consumer appealing multimedia, games and Internet applications will be readily available.
